ROSE MCGOWAN

After escaping the Children of God cult at the age of 13, Rose McGowan became a household name for her mainstream roles in Scream and Charmed. Though she was quickly pigeonholed as just another pretty Hollywood face, McGowan found solace in turning the industries most one-dimensional roles into her own form of performance art. She was also simultaneously putting her siblings through school and surviving systemic abuse at the hands of powerful men, including being raped by Harvey Weinstein in a hotel at Sundance.

Rose was not happy in the acting world and soon became vocal about the toxic misogyny of Hollywood and her desire to work behind the camera instead. in 2014 she made her directorial debut with the short film Dawn, the story of a 50’s era teen girl who becomes the victim of sexual assault, which received rave reviews at Sundance. In 2015 she famously called out a sexist casting notice for an upcoming Adam Sandler film, and was subsequently dropped from her agency.

In the last few years she has become synonymous with the feminist movement, not backing down, not shutting up and continuing to call out the sexist, abusive, dangerous and corrupt behaviors of Hollywood’s most powerful players. She started #RoseArmy to unite women on social media and recently sparked #WomenBoycottTwitter after the social media network blocked her account when she exposed her abusers.
